The WWULLIES Are Coming! Top 5 U50 Werewolf Survival Tips for Healers

Published 2026-05-27 · Built for U50

On June 8th, Update 50 drops the biggest werewolf rework ESO has ever shipped — and the PTS footage already has top duelists calling it the most broken thing they've seen in the game's history. If you main a healer or support in PvP, this is your survival briefing: five things you need to know before launch, including the exploit gap that lets your debuffs win the fight, plus a bonus tip for groups running their own woolie.

Who This Briefing Is For

If you main a healer or support in ESO PvP, the woolies are about to change how you play. Update 50 drops June 8 and the werewolf rework is being called the most broken thing testers have seen in ESO history — top players on PTS report losing to nobody in open-world dueling except other werewolves, and the meta builds are already being uploaded before the patch even launches. This isn't a build guide. It's a tactical briefing: five things you need to know about U50 woolies, plus a bonus enabler tip for those of you whose group is running one. By the end you'll know exactly what to theorycraft into your kit before launch day.

1. Rampage — The Zero-Cost Burst Window

This is the headline mechanic of the entire rework. When a transformed werewolf uses abilities in combat, they build a Fury bar. When Fury fills, their Werewolf Transformation ultimate icon swaps to Rampage — and Rampage is the scariest 20 seconds you'll face this patch. While Rampage is active, every werewolf ability costs zero stamina and zero magicka. Their damage goes up. Their move speed goes up. This is a free-cast burst built into the ultimate. A skilled woolie holds it for the right moment, drops it when the enemy team stacks, and melts the line without ever worrying about their resource bar. Treat Rampage like an ultimate-on-an-ultimate: if you can see Fury filling, the burst window is coming.

2. Functionally Infinite Sustain

The transformation got a massive cost overhaul. It's cheaper to enter, cheaper to maintain, and the cost completely shuts off when the woolie is out of combat — they can stay transformed indefinitely while running around the map. Inside the form, every werewolf ability got its stamina cost slashed compared to the old version. The Call of the Hunt passive layers on top, cutting transformation upkeep further when they're solo and dropping it through the floor when they're stacking in a werewolf pack. Pack Leader's Bone Broth shaves it down even more. And then the Devour synergy — now called Insatiable Hunger — gives them a huge heal, free ultimate generation, and a long stretch of zero-cost form every time they eat a corpse. Under the old system, you constantly worried about falling out of form. Under U50, that worry is gone. Woolies are going to be transformed for the entire fight, period.

3. No Purge + Poison Weakness — Your Exploit Gap

This is the most important point on the list for us as supports, and it's where you should focus your prep. After going through the entire patch notes and the in-client tooltips for every werewolf ability, morph, and passive, there is nothing in the werewolf kit that strips negative effects off them. They have no cleanse. They have no purge. That is the gap. And while we're talking about damage they can't escape, there's a long-standing werewolf weakness worth knowing about: while transformed, werewolves take extra poison damage. The U50 patch notes nerfed that weakness down to a smaller number, but it isn't gone. So if you want one concrete thing to do heading into launch, start theorycrafting around sticky debuffs and poison procs. They land. They stay. They stack. And the woolie can't do a single thing about it.

4. The Negate Trap

Let's talk about how to actually shut down a woolie's momentum using Negate, because there's a common misconception here. A baseline werewolf uses stamina for their offensive skills, which means they can technically cast Pounce inside a Sorcerer's Negate to leap out. But that does not make Negate worthless against them. Far from it. Inside that eight-meter globe, enemy players are silenced — and for a werewolf, silence is a death sentence for one specific reason: Hircine's Bounty. Their primary, hard-hitting burst heal costs Magicka. The second a woolie steps into a Negate, their self-healing is completely turned off. They cannot heal through your pressure. This is where you coordinate with your group. Don't just drop a raw Negate and expect them to sit in it. Stun-lock them first — hit them with a hard CC like a fear, knockback, or permafrost stun, and drop the Negate on top of them. Now they are forced to burn massive Stamina to break free and escape. It turns our number-one zoning ultimate into the ultimate werewolf pressure cooker.

5. CC Chains and the Snow Treaders Caveat

Here's the nuance the Discord support community has been working through. Werewolves have no built-in CC break — nothing in their passive kit reduces break-free cost. Every time a woolie eats a hard CC, they pay full stamina to break out. The theory: chain stuns and roots on them, drain their stamina, deny the Rampage. But there's a complication. Snow Treaders — the mythic boots that grant immunity to cleansable snares and immobilizations — are going to be everywhere. If a woolie is wearing Snow Treaders, and a lot of them running in a comp group probably will be, your snares and roots get shrugged off. The takeaway for comp play: if your group is planning to bleed a woolie's stamina pool through CC chains, build the comp around hard CCs — stuns, fears, knockbacks. Soft CCs will work against a wolf pack not running treaders, but don't bet the team comp on it.

Bonus: How to Enable Your Woolie

If your group is running a woolie, this is for you — because everything I just said about woolies having no purge cuts both ways. A woolie's biggest weakness is also a woolie's biggest need. They can't cleanse themselves. Every sticky debuff that lands on your group's woolie sticks on your woolie too. If you're the support in a group with a woolie, your number one job is to be their cleanse. Run a purge for them. There are two clean options. Option one: the Alliance War Support skill line purge. Tooltip: cleanse yourself and your group, removing up to three negative effects immediately. The morph called Efficient Purge reduces the cost — slot it on your backbar regardless of class or build. Option two: if you're a Templar, you already have Cleansing Ritual built into your class. Drop the Ritual circle, your woolie stands in it, and you keep them clean of every sticky debuff the enemy team applies. This is the difference between your woolie being a meta monster and your woolie being a debuff-stacked stat-stick. Be the enabler. Run a purge.

The Briefing in One Line

Rampage is a zero-cost burst window. Sustain is functionally infinite. No purge plus the leftover poison weakness is the exploit gap. Negate paired with a hard CC shuts down their self-heal. Hard CC chains drain them but watch for Snow Treaders. And if you've got a woolie in your group, run a purge to keep them clean. Theorycraft sticky debuffs and poisons into your kit before June 8 and you'll be ready on launch day. The woolies are coming — but we are not going down without a fight. See you on launch day.
